North Coast Sketches
Goat Rock State Park
As I said in my last post, I made some vacation time for myself the last month or two. Not a continuous vacation, but I made it out of town for a three day weekend almost every week, to Yosemite several times and up the coast twice. While on those trips, I made an effort to do some sketches. In the scheme of things, I’m probably more partial to photos, but sketches are good too, and I find myself doing more and more drawing for work. All of these are from the Jenner area, three in the vicinity of Goat Rock and one at Fort Ross.

Welcome back. Looks like you took a great low-stress approach to vacationing. I’m hanging around here for the most part this summer. People pay money to come to these places so why go someplace crowded and miserable? Anyway, love the sketches. Anyone can do photos, but sketches are lots rarer. And I really get a sense of the coast from them.

These sketches are so wonderful and inspiring. So much better than a photo! What a cool endeavor to visit as many state parks as possible this summer. I’m going to copy you, and may even try a sketch or two myself. Thank you for the inspiration!

@James Thanks. I did go to Yosemite which is the just about the most crowded place imaginable, but I know what you mean. These places are so easy to visit and so amazing.
@Plantanista I’ve really been enjoying our state parks this summer, and really frustrated that so many of them will be closing in the fall. It’s kind of hard not to harp about it on the blog. Fort Ross was closed the first time I went up the coast and will be closed again in a few months because of funding. I think Goat Rock will stay open, but that’s just because they offer so few services there and it would be difficult to keep people out.
