Lawn to Wildflowers

This was a fun lawn conversion. I got to seed native wildflowers during the initial planting, Baby Blue Eyes and Meadowfoam, possibly my two favorite native annuals. The key is that the lawn was in a fenced backyard so the deer weren’t a problem.

Apparently I made a Meadowfoam end and a Baby Blue Eyes end.

The red flower is Sunrose, Helianthemum ‘Henfield Brilliant’. It supposedly has different water needs than the Meadowfoam, but they both lived happily together the first winter when the soil was loose and full of compost.

Meadowfoam finishes pretty early, but dies back tidily. It came back the second year but not as strong, and now in the fifth year I didn’t see any sign of it or the Baby Blue Eyes.

But now the garden has fruit trees. The client began collecting and propagating Figs, and has over twenty varieties the last time I was there. I didn’t even know there were twenty varieties of fig. Lawn to fruit trees with some lovely memories of wildflowers.
